Despite the logjam at the top, it was Juvenile Captain Daniel Gribben who ended a memorable golfing year by winning the season-ending Juvenile Annual at Home competition.
Gribben has represented the juvenile section as its captain all year, and last Sunday he let his clubs do the talking to win the Annual at Home on a countback after signing for 39 points. Gribben was joined on 39 points by Paddy Jennings and Aaron O’Boyle but secured the win with his storming back nine.
Despite a birdie on the opening hole, Gribben dropped half a dozen shots before reaching the turn but finished strong to be two under gross for his last seven holes with birdies at 14 and 17.
Jennings was second on a countback with O’Boyle third. Darragh Scannell was fourth on 38 points, one ahead of Conleth Lennon (37), with Logan Deegan and Conor Fitzsimons both carding 36 points.
A total of 30 juveniles took to the Annesley Links to compete in the Annual at Home where the weather gods were kind to the juveniles.
As family members and juveniles gathered at the clubhouse for the presentation afterwards, the prizegiving for the season’s cups and trophies also took place.
Elsewhere there was some sensational scoring in the men’s Sunday Stableford competition with Michael Morgan pipping his good friend Niall Doran to the spoils. Morgan won with 43 points in a round that contained three birdies and four dropped shots for a season’s best gross 72.
Morgan’s score had to be on point as his playing partner Doran shot the lights out on the Championship Links with another personal season’s best, gross five-under 66 that had no less than seven birdies and just two dropped shots for 42 points.
Seamus Rooney rolled back the years to grab third on 41 points as he finished top of Division 3, five ahead of Gerard Finlay in second with Sean Brannigan leading the chasing pack on 33.
Patrick McComiskey won Division 2 with 38 points, one ahead of Kristopher Stratton and Stephen Burns in second and third respectively.
Last Thursday’s nine-hole Stableford competition was won by Eddie O’Hare with 22 points, two clear of Alan Shiells (20) in second with Michael Keane third (19).
