
Mourne Club Classic winners sponsored by Motis
Mourne Golf Club enjoyed another hugely successful Open Week where visitors from across Ireland came to play and compete on the Championship and Annesley Links courses at Royal County Down.
The week-long festival of golf kicked off with the Motis sponsored Men’s Fourball Classic which was won by Mourne’s Martin Brown, Michael Mckenna, Michael Murphy and Declan Morgan with a great team score of 98 points.
With the recent heatwave in place, visitors and Mourne members were treated to wonderful golfing conditions on the links. Monday’s Men’s Open Stableford, sponsored by Blue-Fin Software Solutions, was won by Brendan Brown with his leading score of 41 points. Darryl Northrop was second with 39 points and a better back nine than Matthew Doran (39) in third.
Tuesday’s Drumcaslte Ltd sponsored Men’s Open Fourball Stableford saw visitors get in on the act as the Tipperary duo of S Morrisey and S Reade where victorious with their tally of 44 points. In a close fought contest, they edged Mourne’s John Murray and Gerard Toner (44) on a countback, while Richard Maginn and John Maginn also had 44 points and claimed third.
The Ladies’ Open Team Classic Stableford, sponsored by RCD Professional Shop, was won by Stella Parker, J McCaw and Kathleen Calvert with a fine score of 80 points with team Greene securing second with 78 points.
Wednesday’s Open Mixed Foursomes Stableford, sponsored by Smyth’s Centra & Fisher & Fisher (Solutions), was won by the Magowan pair with 40 points, who denied Anna McNiff and Ryan McNiff on a countback.
Thursday’s Rodgers Trophy and Men’s Open Singles Stableford, sponsored by John Rodgers Building Supplies Ltd, was won by Mourne’s Greg Smyth with 39 points, with fellow Mourne golfer Connor Pimm in second, also with 39 points. Corballis golfer David Baugh was third with 38 points.
The concluding day of Open Week saw Mourne’s Richard Maginn and Eugene Rooney win the Property Directions sponsored Men’s Open Fourball Stableford with 46 points. Brian Gilleece and James Morgan from Mourne were second with 43 points.
In the Ladies’ Open Fourball Stableford sponsored by Mortgage & Insurance Directions, A McEvoy and Nan Crory won with 48 points with H McGaughey and N Downes teaming up to take second on 44 points.
The presentation of the week’s prizes took place at Mourne Golf Club last Friday where club captain Mark Guinness was on hand alongside the sponsors who helped deliver such a successful week.
