Mourne Golf Club Update
Oct 26, 2022
We are at that time of year when the greenkeeping staff must carryout their winter maintenance programme and take actions to rest and protect parts of the course. Amongst other things this results in the course being set up using a variety of tee boxes, some forward and some pushed back. Under these conditions the WHS rules determine that the course is not in an ‘Acceptable Score’ condition. Therefore until further notice all competitions and all scores returned from the Championship Course will be Non-Qualifying for handicap purposes this includes General Play scores.
At this time all scores returned in Competition and General Play from the Annesley Course remain Qualifying for handicap.
In addition temporary local rules are now in place relating to a ball lying in an aeration hole and to interference from ropes and stakes including the metal hoops adjacent to some greens. Copies of these local rules are attached and are posted on the notice board in the clubhouse.
Temporary Local Rule – Aeration Holes “If a player’s ball lies in or touches an aeration hole the following Local Rule is in place:
(a) Ball in the General Area
The player may take relief under Rule 16.1b. A ball that comes to rest in or on an aeration hole may be lifted without penalty, cleaned and placed as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole.
(b) Ball on Putting Green
The player may take relief under Rule 16.1d. On the putting green, a ball that comes to rest in or on an aeration hole may be placed at the nearest spot not nearer the hole that avoids the situation. But interference does not exist and relief is not permitted if the aeration hole only interferes with the player’s stance or the player’s line of play.
Temporary Local Rule – Ropes and Posts (including metal hoops adjacent to greens)
Ropes and posts are* immovable obstructions,* and a player may take relief under Rule 16. In addition, relief may also be taken if a post is on the player’s line of play and is within 10 paces of the ball. At no time should ropes, posts or metal hoops be moved No play is permitted from inside roped off areas.
Breach of a Local Rule incurrs a 2 shot penalty
